Wangal Wetlands Project Overview

Where stormwater creates livability – a reclaimed tip site (formerly Croydon brick pit) was redeveloped into community open space and parklands.A great collaboration between @burwoodcouncil @alluvium_consulting @mcgregorcoxall @dragonflyenvironmental and @glascott_landscape to pick up the #stormwaternsw award for excellence in integrated stormwater design.

Neverstop designed and constructed the water harvesting and treatment systems.

Scope of works

  • A re-circulation pump set was installed in a cast insitu pit at the base of the wetlands to recirculate the water at a rate 5l/s maintaining wetland aquaculture and environmental benefits.
  • Being and old tip site, leachate water was required to be extracted from the lower layers of the wetlands and monitored prior for PH and TSS prior to discharge into the sewer network according to a tradewaste agreement. Acid and Akaline dosing systems were incorporated to keep the PH stable before discharge.
  • A secondary harvesting system incorporating, screen, media and UV dosing was built to reclaim the pond water for reuse in the 40 station parkland irrigation system.
  • A new 25kl irrigation storage tank with mainswater back up just in case.
  • A custom built PLC and logic control system was built to handle all pumps and WTP sequencing. The system is also remotely monitored by an online system to report and view system status.
